A New Use for Hot dogs and Fun Food from main courses to a really gross kid dessert they will love while you make faces.

Family Friendly and Delicious. Try the following:
Mock Ham Sandwiches.
Are you ready for a new use for hot dogs?
Boil three hot dogs, cool and put through a food processor or blender on corse chop.
Add 1/4 tsp prepared mustard
And 3 tablespoons mayonnaise and mix together.
Spread on slices of buttered or mayonnaise laden bread.  How cool is this?  A tsp of sweet relish can’t hurt if you like.  You could beef it up more even with a chopped hard- boiled egg to make a truly hearty sandwich kids and adults will eat.  The butter is a bit much with today’s phobia with fat.  You could leave it out and use mayonnaise on the bread and still have a moist sandwich.  This is good with soup or by itself.

Personal Pizzas.
Tortillas, the big ones.
Olive oil
Fresh tomatoes,
garlic powder or a clove of fresh garlic,
Oregano, basil, whatever spice you like, to taste
Green pepper, sliced thin,
Onion, also thin pieces,
Mozzarella, optional, but good. And whatever topping you have and like.
Parmesan cheese for topping just before baking.
Blend the tomatoes, spices and vegetables in the blender or food processor. Preheat the oven. Oil the tortillas, and spread the mixture on each; bake at 400 degrees for about 8 minutes.

Chimichangas
Brown and drain a pound of ground beef or use shredded beef from a roast, always better, and ½ cup minced onions and fry until tender and drain the grease. If using the shredded beef cook the onion first than add
the beef to heat it and proceed.
Add a 15 Oz. can of refried beans and heat to soften them up,
two tablespoons of salsa,
dice and add one tomato, and add
3/4 cumin seasoning,
a tablespoon of parsley, and heat through.
Steam flour tortillas to soften them.
Add filling in the center and fold from the ends, then both sides.  Secure with tooth picks and deep fry until browned and crispy. Top with shredded cheddar cheese or Monteray Jack even.  Serve with lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream. A good side dish is Spanish rice.

Fruit serving__ add ice or a scoop of orange sherbet to a sherbet glass and spoon mandarin orange slices over this.  Pour orange juice over all and serve. Lime sherbet works too.

Flower Pot Desserts. Or: Let them eat dirt.

chocolate instant pudding,
a baked unfrosted chocolate cake( use what you need and eat the rest of the cake as cake),
gummy worms
Whipped cream
clean unglazed flower pots of a decent size to serve children.
Small trowels from a dollar store for a thrifty and clever spoon.
Sterilize the pots in a oven for two hours at 350 degrees.

Make instant chocolate pudding and break up chocolate cake into the pudding and mix well to make a crumbly consistency like dirt.  Add the gummy worms and stir.  Lay in the bottom of the pot a piece of cake over the hole in the pot. Spoon pudding/cake mixture into the pots, layered with whipped cream.  Top with a gummy worms or some candy critter to delight a kid.
Serve with the trowel.

Variation: layer with scoops of ice cream instead of whipped cream. Start with the layer of pudding/cake over the slice of cake.  You could use just about any kind of cake as long as it crumbles well.  Angel cake doesn’t crumble.
Make even simpler with ice cream cones instead of flower pots and just top with whipped cream.

I love food my kids can make themselves and these are thrifty enough I don't mind if they serve them to their friends.
