Electric chainsaws have not been around as their predecessor, the gas powered model which have been a mainstay for the logging industry since the 1920's. Electric motor chainsaws are preferred by many for numerous reasons. Compared to the gas powered chainsaws, electric are lighter, smaller, and easier to handle which make the electric model less challenging for the average person to use for yard work compared to the gasoline powered saw. Another great feature of the electric chainsaw is that they do not put out emissions and are more environmentally friendly.  The biggest drawback of electric saws is that they are not very powerful compared to gas powered chainsaws.

An electric chainsaw is far safer than gasoline powered saw. The biggest safety advantage is that they have a reduced risk in kickback which is when the saw hits an obstruction and bounces back towards the user. The electric chainsaw uses less energy and has less power which explains why the kick back is at a lower risk. A downside of the gasoline powered chainsaw the wait in cool down time when you need to refill the gas tank. The electric saws never need refueling. A big perk to electric saws is that they create far less noise pollution which makes them great for neighborhood use. Lastly, electric chainsaws do not require the hassle of draining the fuel before storing in a vertical position.

There are many reasons to choose a gas powered saw over electric. Then main reasons are the added power and the freedom of not being attached to a power cord.  The cord on an electric saw limits its range and if a big storm knocked the power out, you may be out of luck for sawing the tree in your yard.   When it comes to felling a major load, a gas chainsaw is usually the best option.  Finally, the safety features on electric saws make them more difficult to clean.

It is important to understand chainsaw reviews like this before making your purchase.  Finding the right chainsaw must be made after considering the advantages and disadvantages of each kind of saw and how you plan on using it.
