Floyd Mayweather, Jr. said Hatton was to blame for his loss to the pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao in their last fight in Las Vegas. He defended his father saying that he is a world-class trainer

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. defended his father after Ricky Hatton’s devastating loss to the popular Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao. He said his father is a world-class trainer and should not be blamed for Hatton’s loss.

Telegraph co.uk reports:

Mayweather Jnr said Hatton was to blame, not his father, who was his coach. Mayweather Jnr, who is coming out of retirement after 20 months, said: "I created the blueprint for others to follow. Ricky has gunshot in him, and he could be knocked out again. He has been in some real wars in his career. You can only do that so long.

"I think he should call it a day and go out there looking for young fighters for his Hatton Promotions Company, and work on inspiring them."

Floyd, Jr. said that he looks forward to fighting in England possibly at the Wembley Stadium at some future time.

The Telegraph report added:

Mayweather also came to the defence of his father, Floyd Mayweather Snr, insisting that he was a world-class trainer, and that Hatton's performance against Pacquiao was of the Mancunian's own doing.

"Hatton did not stick to the game plan, and at this level that's what you've got to do. My father has been criticised and that is wrong. He is a great trainer."

In the meantime, the feuding Mayweather family has reportedly made up after a long period of ‘on again-off again’ relationship.

Bad Left Hook reports:

The Mayweathers are, in many ways, boxing royalty. Jr. is arguably still the best fighter in the world, and both Sr. and Roger are regarded as top trainers. Big Floyd says he and his son started working things out right after the Hatton fight, and have been working together some. It appears for now that Roger will remain in the lead trainer position.

But realistically, you can’t note that we're talking about three massive egos that have clashed very hard in the past. I really hope they work together, it turns out great (win or lose against Marquez), and everyone gets along and loves each other and one of boxing's "dysfunctional families" garners a new reputation. What are the odds, though?

Boxing fans are hoping that the Mayweather family feud would finally come to a happy ending even beyond the Marquez-Mayweather fight.
