It might just be the most decadent dessert of them all. Deep fried candy bars are not diet friendly, but they sure taste great! Discover what you're missing.

We all know candy bars aren't exactly health food, but Scotland may have take the extra step to make them positively lethal! You see, Scotland deep fries their candy bars. As if this weren't bad enough, they are often served with a side of french fries in many of Scotland's restaurants and hang outs. Two doctors from Scotland did a survey to find out just how many restaurants and fish and chip shops actually carry these unusually decadent delicacies. They found a full 22 percent of restaurants and fish and chip shops carried deep fried Mars bars, which seems to be the candy bar of choice in Scotland to deep fry.

Just how bad is a deep fried candy bar for you? The calorie content of a deep fried Mars bar weighs in at 422. Not to mention all of that artery clogging fat.! People don't seem to mind the extra calorie and fat burden since the average restaurant sells 23 deep fried Mars candy bars in a week, a not insignificant sum. One fish and chip shop reportedly sells around 300 deep fried Mars candy bars each and every week. The deep fried Mars candy bar is thought to have been developed in Stonehaven, a Scottish village, after a customer and a fish and chips shop owner struck up a bet.

Scotland is not an area of the world known for its healthy eating, so it's not surprising that such an unhealthy food would be embraced by the Scottish. Obesity rates are going up on a yearly basis and deaths from cancer and heart disease are on the rise. In addition to deep fried candy bars, Scotland also fries a number of other foods including various other candy bars, fruits and even ice cream.

It may be reassuring for the Scottish to know they're not the only country who offers a deep fried candy bar. I read a review by a man who indulged in a deep-fried Snickers candy bar at the 2005 North Carolina State Fair. Apparently the vendor dipped the Snickers bar into funnel cake batter before deep frying it. What was the verdict on taste? The man declared the deep fried candy bar to be "amazing". On a scale of one to ten, he gave it a twelve. The cost for such an indulgence in 2005 was relatively modest at $3.00, although the cost of that coronary bypass surgery later could make up for the low price!

So the next time you pick out your favorite candy bar at the grocery store, ask yourself that all important question. Would it taste better deep fried?
