by LucasDie | in Reviews > Books
In a time when open adultery was still frowned upon, quite unlike to today when it is everyday life to a senile Italian prime minister, George Eliot was born. She was to become one of the most read, most mocked, and best earning writers of the 19th century.

The London Tube Re-enacts Charlie Chaplin
by LucasDie | in Travel > Europe
The eminently able and well organized services called the Underground or Tube in London is one of the wonders of the world. Inevitably closed on weekends because the lazy and overpaid jobbers employed by London Transport, the Tube also stand for the highest standard in organization the world has ever seen; and this organization is based on chaos theory.

The Official Biography of Queen Mum
by LucasDie | in Reviews > Books
Macmillan published Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother by William Shawcross. The book suffers from the usual bug all biographies and autobiographies suffer from: It shows the life of the subject as the writer wants it to be remembered, not as it was.

by LucasDie | in Education > Languages

The Christmas Tree and Its Evolution
by LucasDie | in Events & Holidays > Christmas
Christians love to put up a Christmas tree before the 25th of December. Many think of it as traditional. Depending on how narrow minded one is, the tradition is either not very old, or rather older than one imagines. The Christmas tree has a history. It was promoted, demoted, forbidden and it developed to its modern form through many stages.
